The Heir and The Spare (Untitled #1) by Emily Albright

The Heir and the Spare
Published by: Merit Press
Genre: Young Adult, Romance, Contemporary
Rating: ****

American Evie Gray has finally achieved her dream. To be able to attend Oxford just like her mother did before she tragically died. But there is more to the story. Directed throughout her life by mysterious envelopes written by her mother, Evie finds herself in the same school, and friendship circle as the spare heir to the British throne, Edmund. The two dance around the city of London and surrounding cities as they try to figure out what exactly Evie's mother wants, and whether there is such a thing as fairytales.

My first impressions of this book were quite dismissive. It felt too cringeworthy, especially after the Kate and Wills story but now that I have read this, I can honestly say that it definitely isn't as bad as I thought.

Starting with Evie's brief moving into her student digs at Oxford, she is immediately befriended by fellow students and meets the mysterious Edmund (who looks familiar but not). The book quickly introduces the reader to all of what they need to know about everyone whilst setting up the romance pretty quickly (and rather solidly.)

The Heir and The Spare can be purchased from Amazon now.

Join Up (Island trilogy #3) by Tudor Robins

Join Up (Island trilogy #3) by Tudor Robins

Published by: the author
Genre: Young Adult, Romance, Contemporary
Rating: Five Stars

A huge thank you to Tudor for letting me have an advance copy

I cannot believe the series is over. Cue the tissues because I absolutely adored this book and the series. Having told Ms Robins that her books are amazing and inspired me, I think this book is further evidence that horsey books need to be out in the world more.

Join Up concludes Lacey's life as she leaves the island and all it's inhabitants to spend the summer earning money for college and maybe discovering more about herself. The camp is for kids who want to learn more about horses, to have an experience of actually owning one for a few weeks without the responsibility of forever keeping one. It's a magical thing these camps. But Lacey takes it in her stride as she teaches her students and keeps up connections to the island.

But things change. Life changes us all. Lacey meets someone who could potentially replace Jared in her heart and he might have four legs. Of course she finds another horse. He doesn't hold a flame to Salem but there's definitely something between him and Lacey that keeps her coming back for more and more.

It's a weird situation I'm in. I want to say so much more about the book but I can't without spoiling the end. All I can say is that this is the series you need to read if you love horses.

Join Up is available for purchase at Amazon UK and Amazon US.

P.S. I Still Love You (To All The Boys I've Loved Before #2) by Jenny Han

P.S. I Still Love You (To All The Boys I've Loved Before #2) by Jenny Han

Published by: Simon and Schuster for Young Reader
Genre: Young Adult Contemporary
Rating: ****

I've had the paperback sitting on a shelf for about a month and a half staring at me. Unfortunately due to the start of my third and final year of University and just not being in the right mood to read it, I've not properly been able to read it until now!

Jenny Han is famed for her amazing summer read series The Summer I Turned Pretty. That series made me fall in love with her writing style and the wonderful characters she creates.

P.S. I Still Love You continues on from the first book, and follows young Lara Jean as she tries to decipher what her heart wants admist the fiasco with Peter. I'm not going to lie. As a twenty year old I had huge flashbacks for how I felt at her age and some parts I argued were a bit too fantasized but I'm not American or raised with her parents so maybe I'm wrong for feeling that way.

Lara Jean continues her deciding on whether she wants Peter or not, her sisters are so funny and she becomes as we all do, confused. I admire Han on not making her a weak character, a victim of the Bella Swan syndrome but instead simply who she is. A young teenager with the world ahead of her. I laughed and smiled my way through the book and by the time I closed the last page, I couldn't help but think of Belly from the Summer series.

Both girls are so similar that I feel like I'm reading an alternative world version of the Summer series and that makes me feel like I'm getting another chance to relive that series. (Frantically burrows out the series.)

But there was so much that I couldn't fault. Miss Han has a fantastic way of creating teenage protagonists who mature and transform so much over the span of the series that it's almost as if we too are growing up with them. That's something I admire in authors, particularly Young Adult as it helps us become who we will be someday.

P.S. I Still Love You is available to buy from Amazon UK and Amazon US.

City Love by Susane Colasanti

City Love by Susane Colasanti

Published by: Katherine Tegen Books
Genre: Young Adult romance, Contemporary
Tagline: Look up. Anything is possible.

First of all I want to say that this book was absolutely breathtaking and captivating. I don't think a book has affected me so much in my life before. It made me feel as if I was in every scene of the books, as if I was part of those girls and experienced everything they did. And as someone considering the future, it definitely made me think about emigrating to New York so thank you Ms Colasanti for a beautiful and magnificent book!

But now back to the book!

City Love is split between the lives of three very different girls from different lives who share an apartment before starting college or university in the city. The reader is introduced to Sadie, Darcy and Rosanna in very different ways but you get to know each girl in how that happens.

Sadie is the first person we meet. She's that friend we all have, the ready to be completely in love and totally optimistic about everything. I genuinely liked Sadie because of these characteristics. Of course I felt a bit off about how damned happy she could be but she's literally like a puppy. Adorable and one of the best and loyal friends you could have.

Then there's Darcy. Darcy is the opposite of Sadie with her fast attitude and at first, laziness. We discover this is jetlag because she's from Cali. But she's not who we think she is. She's been burned and so this explains everything about her. Yet there's so much more to the complex puzzle that makes her who she is.

Rosanna is the last girl to introduce and probably my favourite. She's the poorest student out of the three, and the one who is very realistic. She so desperately wants to help everyone and anyone but needs to help herself. She has so much weight on her shoulder, so many problems to tackle and solve that when she meets someone who can actually treat her right, she's very uncertain of what to do.

It's a fantastic book that explores the magical city of New York and it's allure. We all fall more in love with the city through each character and their experiences. We all want to move there and experience almost the same things as the girls do but this is the exciting part about New York. The reason there are so many books and films set in and around the city. We all just want to fall in love and this is the city to do it in.

City Love is available to buy from Amazon UK and Amazon USA now.

A Court of Thorns and Roses (A Court of Thorns and Roses #1) by Sarah J Maas

A Court of Thorns and Roses (A Court of Thorns and Roses #1) by Sarah J Maas

The cover is just beautiful! I managed to get a signed copy though which is amazing!

Published by: Bloomsbury
Genre: Young Adult fantasy, YA Romance, Fantasy

I am always blown away by Sarah J Maas. Always.

She doesn't disappoint at all. My immediate throughts upon starting the novel was that it was a wee bit slow but then as I was literally sucked into the Fae world limb by limb, I understood why she did it.

The story is about Feyre (Yes is sounds very alike faery) and the consequences of her hunting to save her family for starving. It's a typical girl must grow up to keep her family alive, a rather sad one but Feyre makes it work or should I say Mrs Maas.

But as the story unfolds, we are introduced as usual per Sarah's books, to amazing characters such as the handsome Tamsin who comes with a dark and secretive past/curse and his companion.

Yes our dear protagonist is sent to live in fae land where everything at first seems to good to be true but as she gets comfortable (or as comfy as one can be), she soon finds out nothing is as it seems.

I really want to write a lot more but I fear that I will spoil this book and I can't bring myself to because it is such a fantastic book!!

A Court of Thorns and Roses can be found signed in some Waterstones stores (UK only) or online at Waterstones or on Amazon UK or Amazon US

The Infinite Sea (The Fifth Wave #2) by Rick Yancey

The Infinite Sea by Rick Yancey

Firstly I must gush about how much I LOVE this book! Yes it really deserves the capitals and the exclaimation mark because as a sequel it blew my mind. Barely an hour it took me to read this. That's how captivated and hooked I was.

The novel continues on from Fifth Wave in that epicly confusing point of view of Ringer. See because it's literally been ages since reading fifth wave, I didn't click who everyone was, I immediately assumed Ringer was Ben and then went on to be why is ben in two places until I remembered (with the help of a wikia page) who everyone was and so my mind was happy.

This aside though, the book was fantastic. I had the incredible feeling of superiority over Louise because she had only started reading it as I finished and after her epsiode with the Allegiant spoilers, I had to at least tease her a little... Well I could have been a better person but nope. Not gonna happen
