Race Girl (The Go Girls Chronicle #3) by Leigh Hutton

Race Girl (The Go Girls Chronicle #3) by Leigh Hutton
Published by: Port Campbell Press
Genre: YA Contemporary, Sports, Equestrian
Rating: ***

This has got to be a really weird book to review purely because of how it varies between being really good and quite blah. Of course, that can be because I might not be the intended target audience of the story (it's clearly meant for a younger audience).

However, the story follows the life of Tully Athens and her endeavor to be like her idol, the great Michelle Payne. But there is a problem. Her family farm is no longer able to afford the basic luxuries that come with racing. Yet there is another issue. How can Tully ride when her mother only just died from a racing incident?

My honest view of this was how amazing the story was at first. It was only until the middle of the novel that the novel took a nosedive into a ridiculous tale that made no sense at all. I could not, for the life of me, wrap my head around the many different plot twists introduced in the last 100 pages or so.

Therefore, I end my review with a link to buy the book from Amazon.

Perfect Ruin (The Internment Chronicles #1) by Lauren DeStefano

Perfect Ruin (The Internment Chronicles #1) by Lauren DeStefano

Published by: Simon and Schuster for Young Readers
Genre: YA dystopia, romance, sci-fi/fantasy

As a reader of the Chemical Garden trilogy I immediately thought this book would be alike in theme and style. Don't get me wrong it is but for some reason I didn't feel as if this as good.

The book follows the life of Morgan Stockhour whose father is a policeman, her brother disabled and her mother who takes time to nap and take pills. However there's a twist. They don't live on the Earth as we know it. Instead they live on Interment which is like Jack and the Beanstalk (A castle in the sky except instead of a castle it's land). Noone goes up nor down. Therefore the few who do decide to go to the edge go a little mad (Morgan's brother was one of them) or get hurt.

We all know curiousity can get the best of us and Morgan's guilty of doing just that. She constantly thinks about the edge and a life outside of Internment but there's so much at stake here. She's betrothed to fellow classmate Basil (who's a darling but I had a feeling something wasn't right about him) and best friends with artist and lover of Interment Pen. All in all it's a fantastic idea, I do love the concept but maybe I'm not the right audience for it now.

I'll probably reread this in a year or so.

Redeemed (book #12) by P.C. Cast and Kristin Cast

Redeemed (book #12) by P.C. Cast and Kristin Cast

Wow this book was such a fail. I was really annoyed with the weak and really unimaginative ending. Obviously Kalona gets Nyx back and his brother is a jerk we all hate but Zoey Redbird should have died! The prophercy stated she'd die but nope. She does this pitiful dramatic I'm going to die act and speech but never follows through. Such a shame.

Ex-Factor (Diamond Girls #1) by Elisa Dane

Ex-Factor (Diamond Girls #1) by Elisa Dane

It was a mediocre book to be fair. I found the cheerleader stuff to be put aside as a time waster and found it highly annoying when no moves were referenced (it seemed poorly researched with the lack of info pushed at me) Also there is the fact these troubled girls always get called a bitch, a whore etc for no reason and then fall for the bad boy that was also the ex of the girl they wanted to please. It was tiring keeping up with the drama.

The Jewel (The Lone City #1) by Amy Ewing

The Jewel by Amy Ewing

Well this has been on my to-read list for as long as I can remember (aka from January this year). The blurb sounded so promising, the cover not so much but in the end it was a sham.

The book series was reminiscent of The Selection series by Kiera Cass, a series that makes women look like pansies and just weak in everyone's eyes. The protagonist, Violet (named after her eyes...how original) obviousl doesn't want to be sold and impregnated as the others do blah blah blah. She's just another America Singer, a girl who can do magic and looks absolutely fabulous when her personality is about as limp as a piece of dry lettuce and that is limp.  Her very existance annoyed me, especially with the way the book told me what would happen moments before it happened. Like what the hell. Why on earth would someone want to publish a book where you're told that (spoiler) she's going to fall for the companion and then wither. Yup. Just dandy.

If you love your salad limp, your chicken rubbery and just wet books just read this, if not. Put this down and grab yourself a proper book!
