The Stars Never Rise by Rachel Vincent

The Stars Never Rise by Rachel Vincent

What possibly could I say to get you to read this book?

How about the fact that it's from the author of amazing series such as Shifters and Soul Screamers? If that doesn't work then maybe this review might.

The book inserts the reader into an almost apocalyptic world, I had the feeling I was stuck in the last of Us world minus the zombies and a bit more civilised and noone wanting to kill you. However you get the gist of everything Vincent wants you to get and more. The characters are wonderful, very easy to get, understand and relate to whilst being entertaining and clearly able to be envisioned in your mind.

I was blown away by this book. I only finished it last night and I couldn't even sit down and read some other arcs. That is very rare.

The Stars Never Rise is out June 18th 2015 and should be available at most bookstores in the UK.

Go buy this book because it's amazing!!

Nocturnes: Five Stories of Music and Nightfall by Kazuo Ishiguro

Nocturnes: Five Stories of Music and Nightfall by Kazuo Ishiguro

Well.

I love Ishiguro's writing style. He just writes beautifully and his work makes me happy. Nocturnes was five stories of different characters and different tales that contain music and as it says nightfall.

The most memorable story was about a young gentleman who played guitar and sees his mother's idol in Italy. He speaks to him, gushes about his later mother and meets the man's wife. You later discover they're separating and the idol asks the gentleman to perform one of his songs with him and it's really emotional. I wept a little as it hit me and yeah.

My second story that stayed with me was the tale in which a middle aged man was mistreated by his friends, a couple. They continue to misuse him and even treat him like an invalid. The worst part he lets them. I found the part in where he pretends a dog gets in was highly strange but I found myself chuckling at his misfortune. I also felt terrible for chuckling.

Maybe that's how Ishiguro positions us? I haven't a clue but it was a beautiful book, the other three stories were great, they didn't stick with me like these but I have to give you something to read in the book.

Inland by Kat Rosenfield

Inland by Kat Rosenfield

This book was greatly confusing but not. I loved Rosenfield's style of writing. It was eery and beautiful all at once. The book follows Callie aka Callypso and her life after her mother drowned and the medical condition she has from that incident (she has bad lungs and panic attacks). Her father is the stern professor who buries himself in work only stopping to tell Callie off. It's a bit of a weird book this. I loved the cover, the blurb and the characters.

"The Ocean doesn't give it's dead back"

Yeah so quotes like this made me understand and become more interested into this tale and what on earth was going on. I love the power behind them but at the same time needed more. The big mystery in the book was mermaids. I  caught patches and few words that when I'd finished the novel finally clicked into place but I honestly thought the mother was a little insane and she was slightly too. Parts of me did think there was some sort of mythological meaning behind the book but I shrugged that off as no review I'd read said mermaids.

Who knows? All I know is that I LOVE Rosenfield's style and hope maybe I can write like this one day.

Unmarked (Legion #2) by Kami Garcia

Unmarked (Legion #2) by Kami Garcia

I received this book in exchange for a honest review and I have to say I LOVED it! Louise lent it me and hasn't read it to my dismay, maybe that's because I have her copy but still. I devoured the first and that was awesome, review to come soon. But mixing things up here by saying the second is far more better than the first. There's a bit that makes it seem like it would suffer from second book syndrome (That's where the second book is a bit yucky but still makes sense) but it still maintains that strength and I really think you should all read it.

Publishes September 30th through Little Brown Book publishers

Also here's the Goodreads link for it: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/12371865-unmarked
